The popular sold out Lemon Vintage Red Truck Mini Sessions are just around the corner and I just wanted to give you all a little help with styling your outfits!

Congratulations to all those who scored a spot! I can not wait to see you! It is going to be so much fun!!!

Lemon Vintage Red Truck

This years Summer Mini Sessions will be featuring my 1957 Willy Pick-up Truck! If you missed last years Summer Watermelon Sessions, you need to check out the BLOG. It will give you a good insight into what to expect this year. This years theme is “When life gives you Lemons, Make something SWEET”. I thought it was a pretty fitting theme for the craziness of 2020. The Vintage Truck will be decked out in rustic farm decor and LEMONS, lots of lemons. There will be lemonade and a whole bunch of fun things for the kids!

The Vibe

These sessions are meant to be fun, free and relaxed. The whole family is welcome including the pups! Think old school summer when you were kids! Bare feet, country fun and laughing kids drinking cold lemonade. This is the vibe we are going for!

Styling your Family!

Your outfits are a huge part of your session. I am here to help you make the most of your professional photoshoot!

Color Scheme

Think all the CITRUS COLORS!! Lemon, orange, greens… The truck will be red, there will be lots of LEMONS, vintage farm decor and lemon greenery garlands. I would stick with the citrus colors, earth tones, whites and denim. Here are some coordinating color pallets to pull from.

MOM

Ok, biggest tip I can give you is MOM’S, DRESS YOURSELVE’S FIRST!!! It is so easy to get carried away finding cute outfits for the kids and then stressing over your own outfit last minute and hating everything you pull together. Probably my most important tip is… Moms, figure out what YOU want to wear first, and then style all the other outfits around you. Yes, sounds selfish, but lets be honest. Finding an outfit we are completely happy with is no easy task. The kids look great in everything, and finding outfits for kids is sooooo much easier. Get rid of most of your stress right from the beginning and decide on what you want to wear first.

Find something comfortable and flattering. Soft flowy maxi dresses are amazing! They suit every body type and the softness adds to that summer feel. I LOVE Rompers! I have this unusually short torso, so I myself look terrible in them and have major Romper Jealousy (it’s a real thing!) towards anyone else who looks amazing in them. But hey I promise I wont hate on you! haha. They just look so fabulous.

You might also think about cute shorts, long skirts… Here are some fun inspiration boards I pulled together.

The Girls

Ok, so this is the fun part. If you have little girls then you are going to have SO MUCH fun searching through all the adorable outfit possibilities. I didn’t have to do much searching before I found a dozen super cute outfits. Don’t forget to accessories! And those cute little lemon rompers are to die for!

The Boys

You can have just as much fun dressing up the little boys. Linen shirts, cute shorts, denim Jeans with no shirt & suspenders, no shoes and cute hats. Here is some boy inspiration. Once again, don’t forget the accessories! Hats and sunnies (Aussie for sunglasses!)

Pulling the Family Together!

Coordinate but don’t matchy-match!

Getting everyone’s outfits to coordinate is the hard part.

When styling & dressing your family, try to coordinate with the children without being too matchy-matchy. If your kids are going with bold colors and any sort of pattern, I would suggest incorporating those colors into your outfits and then utilizing some natural tones (whites, tans, beiges, off whites, denim) to balance out the overall colors.

As far as patterns go, if you are going to go with any outfits with bold patterns, stick to ONE bold pattern. Two many different patterns going on within the one family can be distractive and hard on the eyes. Its best to only have one person (or two if you have a large family) in print or pattern. The other family members might be able to coordinate with that pattern by incorporating some of its colors it into an accessory such as a head scarf, or wearing solid colors matching their pattern. Here are some examples of families who nailed coordinating their outfits and balancing their colors and natural tones.

COMFORT

Dress for COMFORT! You will be picking the kids up, playing, laughing and moving around during your session. Make sure your outfits let you do all of these things. You do not want to be worrying about how your outfit looks the entire session. DO NOT WEAR HEELS! The session will take place on a grassy field. Your heels will sink into the ground. I recommend cute flats, sandals or wedges.

ACCESSORIZE

It is the little things that make the BIG difference! Cute hats, big sunglasses, Jewelry, belts, summer shawls… You name it. Feel free to bring a couple of accessories with you to switch up your looks and add variety to your session. You and the kids!

FINAL TOUCHES

Give your self plenty of time to get ready for your session that day. If you have kids, you know that dressing the family is never smooth sailing. You want your day to be enjoyable and not tainted by the stress of having to get out of the house on time. Have all your outfits out and ready the day before. If you have something you THINK you would like to incorporate into your session, bring it! It is better to have it, than wish you had brought it. The day is meant to be fun and I want to capture some happy moments between your family that you can look back on in years to come!

I hope this has been helpful! Feel free tor each out to me if you have any questions or need another eye. Happy to help with your wardrobe decisions!
