Developing and discovering YOUR ‘style’ as  Newborn Photographer, or any artist of that matter, is an endless journey. People always tell me that they can instantly tell if they see one of my photos. “it was totally your style”. I don’t even know what that means. Honestly I feel like my style is changing all the time. I know that I gravitate towards certain things, but somedays I love bright colors and other days I am feeling the neutrals. One week I’m getting all creative stepping way outside the box and then the next moment I am in love with simple and clean. I think in the end, the most important thing for artists is to just keep creating. It keeps the soul happy and the mind busy.

Honestly I LOVE IT when clients come to me with special requests. They have an idea they want to incorporate and I am challenged to execute it with creativity, but within my own style. I love challenges! I’m just gonna say it right here… I HATE CHEESY! Yup, there is a fine line between creative and cheesy. It is a very blurry line, so I try to stay far away from it. So when clients come to me with their special requests, I try to find a way to produce something beautiful and meaningful without going too far over the top.

 

Dads often have a favorite Sport or Team they want to incorporate into a photo with their precious Newborn. Here are a couple of fun ones I have done recently. A dad wanted his baby photographed in his motorcycle helmet. There were so many ways this could have gone, but I think we found the perfect between subtle and emotional in this photo.

This might be one of my favorites! I photographed a beautiful Maternity Session last Fall. It was stunning and magical. The mother had mentioned how she would have loved to have a photograph with her newborn baby in the same place that she photographed her maternity session. We obviously were not able to travel to the location where she shot her Maternity Photos with a brand new baby… But I was able to bring it to her. After her Maternity Session was over, I grabbed a bucket and some wooly layers I had lying around in the car and photographed this bucket right where she was standing for her Maternity Photos. When she came back to me a couple of months later for her newborn session, I was able to photograph her baby in my studio. I then photoshop him into the beautiful image I had taken of that bucket on the same day as her Maternity Session. And here are the results, a beautiful photo of her baby in a bucket exactly right where she was standing for her Maternity Session.

I love being able to be creative, I love pushing the boundaries and I love doing things I have never done before. It brings me so much joy creating beautiful photos for new parents. And especially creating beautiful photos for them that have that extra special touch and meaning. I could spend all day writing about all the photos I have taken. I don’t want to bore you. Instead, I am just going to randomly share some of my recent creations. There is no style to these photos, they don’t match and they don’t follow any sort of guideline. They are just random bursts of creativity that came from many forms of inspiration…

My wish for us all is that we stay inspired!
