Willow and Archer’s Newborn Photos
Connecticut Newborn & Infant Photographer
Hands up if you got a puppy this Quarantine!
Me, I dived right in and got two sausage dogs. Yeah because I am that kind of Crazy! As a Newborn Photographer, I thought I was totally prepared for the whole Puppy Honeymoon. Oh, I was sooo wrong! So very wrong!
They say that getting puppies is like having a newborn baby. I honestly don’t know as my husband and I do not have any human children… but if it involves sleepless nights, cleaning up the trifecta of poop, pee and spit up. Well, yeah, we got that down. I no longer own any nice carpets and my dream of owning a shag rug is crushed!
But . Oh . My . Goodness
They are soooo cute!
Sausage Dogs
Meet Willow & Archer
The story of how this Southern Bell and Amish Farm Boy came to be the cutest duo in Connecticut is full of total coincidences and spontaneous decisions. Willow is our little sassy spitfire, a little reverse chocolate dapple dachshund that we had planned to join our family for a while. Archer is our snuggly little red dapple sausage dog. There was absolutely ZERO planning on his part. I saw a cute photo of him online and had this very strong gut feeling that it was meant to be. And here we are, on the road to crazy town.
Sausage Dog Newborn Photo Shoot
It was only inevitable that this was going to happen. As a professional newborn photographer, I really wanted to capture some adorable squishy photos of these two as babies. I had this vision of them snuggling together, fast asleep in a bed of flowers. Scrolling through adorable puppy photos on Instagram totally ruined my expectations.
I spend most of my days swaddling and taking the most beautiful photos of newborn human babies. Human Newborns are literally a walk in the park compared to these two. I had no idea what I was up for. Apparently all those photos you see on Instagram of cute piles of sleeping puppies are FAKE. My dreams were crushed. After three attempts I finally had a couple I was happy with. No sleeping puppies in a pile though.. thats for sure.
Behind the Scenes
Don’t they just look like the sweetest little puppies? Well, they have their moments. But most of their newborn session involved chasing after escaping sausage dogs, breaking up puppy rumbles and cleaning up the little squirts they left here and there. Thankfully my husband was there to catch and assist. As you can see, even though Willow is only 2 lbs, she rules the kingdom.
The first day they Met
From day one these two have been Besties! They have their moments like any toddlers do. But we are lucky to have two little ones that actually like each other. I have had dachshunds my whole life, but I have never had a pair that totally took too each other and were buddies. My goal was to have a couple that wanted to snuggle together and be friends. My husband would wake up every morning and grab the two of them and go and snuggle on the couch with them both. The goal was for them to practice being together. It has paid off, as now they have bonded and are literally by each others side all the time. It was a happy mom moment when we found them both in their bed together all curled up and sleeping. I finally got my sleepy pile of puppies! WIN!
And here are just some cute photos of the first day they met….
