Secret Magnolia Garden Spring Maternity Session

One Spring, three years ago I stumbled upon this beautiful Secret Magnolia Garden on my way to an on location Newborn Session. I was running early that morning and decided to stop and take a walk before I headed off to my Session. It was completely random, I was in a part of the world I had never been and just decided to stop off on the side of the road by a reservoir. To my surprise, as I made my way back away from the road, there lay this hidden trail not visible to anybody passing by. As I made my way back further, this little trail opened up into the most magnificent garden of flowering magnolia trees. It was like being lost in a fairytale. The smell was so strong and the beautiful pink blossoms were like falling pink confetti and glitter dust. It was magical!
I went back a week later, and the flowers had disappeared and been replaced by green leaves. You would never have known that only a week before it was a pink magical fairyland. Since then, I have dreamed of doing a photo shoot here. For three years I have been going back to this spot at the same time in Spring. Unfortunately the past two years Connecticut was hit with late April spring snow falls which destroyed the magnolia buds. They never got a chance to flower. This year though, was perfect. The snow and the cold weather held off enough for the buds to emerge. For two weeks I returned to watch them diligently to make sure I didn’t miss them again. It turns out that flowers open very slowly when you are watching them closely. haha.
Finally they reached their peek! And of course it was raining and the weather was horrible. I was determined to make this happen though. My model was just as eager as me thankfully and we found a patch of Sunday afternoon when the rain held off for just a bit. We seized the moment and let the magic happen. My beautiful model was 35 weeks pregnant and stunning! Big thanks to her for being available at the very last second to make this vision come to life. Now, I just have to wait another year before I can shoot there again!
